AI Foundations
Solve a real problem with AI
Part of Basecamp, a track in Alpine Academy for everyone.
About this class
AI gets easier to use once you know how it works and where it fails. No slides, no lectures: you drive, the instructor rides shotgun.Learn the difference between AI reasoning and AI research, and how to push back when an answer is wrong. You solve a real problem before you leave.
What you'll learn
- 01Explain how AI works, and where common beliefs about it are wrong
- 02Name the three layers of AI: browser-based, automations and agentic
- 03Tell AI reasoning from AI research, and pick the right one for the task
- 04Write a basic structured prompt, then improve it with push-back
- 05Ask "Could AI help with this?" before you start a task
Choose your role
Example: what a Finance learner does in class
- Paste a sanitized month-end variance table and ask for the three biggest drivers. Then check each one against the ledger.
- Ask for a growth rate you know is wrong and see how confidently the model states it, so you learn why every figure gets checked.
Choose your role above to see examples for your own work.
What you'll build
- Screenshot of a real problem solved with AI
- Push-back refinement examples
- Reasoning vs. research demonstrations
